Hopeless At Maths
There was a boy who was absolutely hopeless at math. No matter what his parents tried, he always came home with a dismal grade. Finally at their wits’ end, they decide to enrol him in a private Catholic school known for its good education. That evening after his first day in the new school, the boy came home, went straight to his room, and did his homework until dinner time. After dinner, he went back to his room and continued to study diligently. This went on every single night. When his report card finally came back, his parents were astonished: their mathematically challenged son, whom they had nearly given up on, got an A in Math! They were so happy! But also, so puzzled by the change. “Son,” they asked him, “how did you do this?” “Well,” he replied, “that first day in school, I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, and I knew they meant business.”
Old Age
A pious man who had reached the age of 105 suddenly stopped going to synagogue. Alarmed by the old fellow’s absence after so many years of faithful attendance the Rabbi went to see him. He found him in excellent health, —so the Rabbi asked, “How come after all these years we don’t see you at services anymore” The old man looked around and lowered his voice. I’ll tell you, Rabbi,” —he whispered. “When I got to be 90, I expected God to take me any day. But then I got to be 95, — then 100, —then 105. So, I figured that God is very busy and must have forgotten about me..., — and I don’t want to remind Him.”
